Facts & Numbers

Facts and numbers give you a quick peek into what makes Mater Christi School so outstanding. Here are some facts and percentages that we are proud to share with you:

Academic Curriculum

NYS Testing:

The average NYS ELA and math proficiency scores for our students in grades 3-8 were in the Top 5 schools out of the 83 participating public and private schools in Albany County in 2012 & 2013.

Public Speaking:

Each student participates in over 40 different public-speaking opportunities during their time at Mater Christi School where they read before audiences ranging from the daily small classroom setting of 18-20, to the weekly prayer service of 200, and up to the Parish Mass setting reaching 600 people.

Leadership

Students involved in student council learn to work with peers and adults to create an exceptional school environment and to make a difference in the world around them. The leadership skills developed during student council give students a voice and the knowledge that they can make a difference.

Spanish

Students graduate from Mater Christi School ready for high school Spanish II, with 10 years of Spanish study beginning in Preschool and continuing through 8th grade.

English & Literature

The success of our implementation of the research based Six Traits Writing Program throughout the K-8 curriculum is reflected in high annual NY State ELA scores.

Middle school students benefit from two distinct classes, English (writing, grammar and vocabulary) and Literature. This allows all aspects of English Language Arts to be fully developed and discussed throughout the school year.

Math & Science

Mater Christi School has developed a one-of-a-kind cooperative relationship with The College of Saint Rose. Students in the Living Environment Regents class have benefitted from their donation of high quality microscopes for our school lab.

Science and Math classes are divided during the middle school years to enable students to develop essential skills that are needed in order to master the rigors of a high school curriculum. This also allows for the advancement of students prepared for the challenge of high school in their 8th grade year, enabling them to take Integrated Algebra and Living Environment courses. 100% of our students in these Regents classes are successful in passing the Regents exams in June.

Service

Individual classroom and school-wide student council service projects raised over $3000 to benefit more than 10 charitable organizations and those in need in the past school year.

Two families were adopted. One family, a victim of Hurricane Irene, was adopted for the entire year to help them rebuild their home and their lives. The second family was adopted for Christmas by the 8th grade and faculty to help them enjoy the holiday season by purchasing gifts and other necessities.

Students made and delivered more than 300 cards to residents at St. Peter's Rehabilitation Center during the 5 visits by our student council during the year.

Students, families and faculty members joined together to prepare and serve lunch twice during the year at the St. John's/St. Ann's Outreach Center's Welcome Table.

Accreditation

Since 2004, Mater Christi School has held an accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools.  By achieving this goal, the Middle States Commission certified that Mater Christi School adheres to the highest standards in all institutional facets.  During the 2013-2014 school year, the Catholic School Office chose to move forward with a Diocesan-wide accreditation with AdvancED.

Mater Christi School has been awarded inititial Accreditation by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.  Throughout this term of accreditation, Mater Christi School will continue to engage in the tasks required of all institutions to maintain accredited status.
